After a night of back-and-forth scoring, Leakey scored with 31 seconds on a 1-yard run to take a 49-42 lead.  Sabinal quickly drove back down the field and scored with a 65-yard pass from Eric Navarro to John Borrego on the final play of regulation.  Jesse Joe Rodriguez's successfully kicked the pressure-packed extra point to tie the game 49-49 and force overtime.

On Leakey's first overtime possession, Sabinal blocked the Eagle's 35-yard field goal attempt.  On Sabinal's first overtime possession, Clarence Parker broke free and scored on a 23-yard run to end the game 55-49.  

The game was the highest scoring contest in Sabinal football history, with 104 total points.  It surpassed the 84 points scored in a 1997 game against Harper.

Leakey had three rushers with over 100 yards each (Martinez-139; DeLeon-123;  Fletcher-118).

Dave Cambell's Texas Football named Sabinal the Army Strong Team of the Week for Conference 1A after their 55-49 victory.  Per the article; "The Yellowjackets were chosen for this honor because of their teamwork, dedication, discipline, personal courage, and integrity, values shared by U.S. Army Soldiers."
