Game Summary / Notes
Central Catholic came into the game 3-0. Central Catholic had a significant size advantage over Sabinal. The all-boys school had an enrollment of 740 in 1950.
As time was running out in the game, Sabinal had a narrow 12-6 lead and the ball near their goal line. Sabinal fumbled the ball and Central Catholic recovered. But Central Catholic did not have any timeouts and time ran out before they could get a play off.
This was one of the biggest upsets in Sabinal history.
Central Catholic went on that season to be the State Catholic League Runner-up.
At a reunion years later, Coach Curtis was asked whether he thought Sabinal could beat Central Catholic when they were put on the schedule. He said “no” and they'd been put on scheudle to get a "good gate". Which they did.
