Biography
Preston Meyer played linebacker for the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in Belton, Texas. He played with one of his younger brothers, Patrick Meyer (also a linebacker). Preston became UMHB’s first AFCA All-American and is the school's only two-time AFCA All-America honoree. Preston was a three time All-Conference selection and two-time All-Region pick. He played on a Crusader defense that led the nation in rushing defense during the 2001 season. Preston finished his career as UMHB's all-time leader in tackles and tackles for loss, and ranks among the school's best in interceptions, sacks and interception return yardage. Preston was a member of the Crusaders' first NCAA Championship qualifying team and the first UMHB squad to win the ASC championship. Preston was a two-time ASC Defensive Player of the Year (2000/co, 2002) and capped his senior season by becoming the only student-athlete in conference history to sweep the ASC Athlete of the Year and Sportsmanship awards (2002-03 academic year). He was named the UMHB Male Senior Athlete of the Year in 2002. He was chosen to play in the 2002 AFCA Aztec Bowl and was selected co-captain by his teammates on the NCAA Division III senior all-star team. Preston’s accomplishments off the field are as impressive. He was a team leader and charter member of the UMHB football program's Unity Council. Preston served as a team captain. He spearheaded every major community service project involving the football program, including Thanksgiving and Christmas ""Adopt A Family,"" Scott & White Hospital ""Designs for Hope"" pediatric cancer patient program, and ""Helping Hands Ministry."" Preston helped organize a fundraising car wash for a teammate whose family lost its home to a fire. Preston graduated from UMHB in December 2002 with a degree in Exercise and Sport Science. He completed work on his master's degree two years later at UMHB. Meyer went into coaching after his master’s degree.
